What is a Photo & Slide Keepsake Video?

Simply put, it is your "Video Masterpiece". It is your pictures, slides, and even video clips put to your favorite music - custom-made for you. You design it and we make it. Of course, we help you every step of the way. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Collect your material.

Gather up the photos, slides, and video clips you might want to use. This can be a time-consuming task, so plan ahead for any obstacles. For example, if you're going to borrow pictures from friends or relatives, be sure to factor that into your planning and schedule.

Step 2: Organize your collection.

Most people put things in a basic chronological order, but you can do it however you want. For example, young couples making a wedding reception video will commonly have the bride’s growing up pictures first, followed by the groom’s pictures and then wrapping up with their courtship and marriage pictures.

Many people will group their pictures into “sections” with particular songs planned for each section.

When you have everything organized, number the pictures so there won’t be any question about the placement. CAUTION: Don’t write on the back of pictures with an ink pen or marker – they will often bleed onto the next picture on the stack. We recommend using post-it notes stuck on the back side of the picture. Even with these, pencil is best.

Step 3: Plan the music and titles.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to calculate the amount of time that your video will last. For photos and slides, we normally play each picture for 6 seconds. So, 10 pictures will last one minute. One hundred pictures will last 10 minutes and so on. Once you have figured out the amount of time, you can pick the music accordingly.

Regarding titles, you will probably want at least one title at the beginning, but you may want several throughout the video, perhaps at the beginning of each section. Some family history videos have informational subtitles on each picture to identify the people and date of the picture.

Step 4: Review.

Bring or mail your collection into us and we’ll make the video. If you live locally, we’ll set up an appointment and have you come in and review your video. If you live too far away to make that practical, we will simply mail you a review copy of your video. We want your video to be perfect and will be happy to adjust things as necessary.

Common Questions:

Question: Does it matter if my pictures are very tiny?

Answer: No. We have produced excellent results with pictures of all sizes. In one case, we used a picture from a locket that was about the size of a fingernail.

Question: Can you take pictures off scrapbook or photo album pages?

Answer: Yes. If the pictures come out easily, just group them with the rest of the pictures. If they don’t come out easily, don’t worry about it. We’ll still be able to use them. Just bring in the scrapbook or photo album with the pictures labeled appropriately with post-it notes.

Question: Can I bring in music on cassette tapes?

Answer: We prefer music on CD, but we can also handle audio cassettes.

Question: Some of my family members don’t have DVD players yet. Can you make copies on both VHS and DVD?

Answer: Absolutely. We can make as many copies as you need of either format.

Question: I already have scanned digital images of the pictures. Can you use those?

Answer: Sure. We can handle almost any format. JPG is the most popular and works well.
